For this reason, it has created a geographic strategy that led to the creation of the Iberian DOCOMOMO Foundation, based in Barcelona, ??which coordinates the achievement of these general objectives applied to Spain and Portugal.
Movimento MO MOderno (DOCOMOMO) has been held in the Iberian territory since 1993 from the collaboration of various entities and institutions, in particular the Colleges of Architects, Institutes of the Heritage of Autonomous Governments, Schools of Architecture and Entities dedicated to the dissemination of architecture.
The period between 1925 and 1965 was used for the Spanish and Portuguese camps. The Foundation’s objectives include the exchange of experiences and ideas relating to the architecture and urban planning of the Modern Movement, as well as its documentation and storage. The monitoring of the protection of said architectural heritage and the creation of a pedagogy so that the architecture of the Modern Movement is appreciated by the Institutions and the general public. A fundamental tool is the international registration of the relevant buildings of the Modern Movement in order to facilitate documentation and conservation. These considerations also have the aim that the modern legacy is fully estimated as a “heritage” worthy of conservation and dissemination. Among its activities, it is worth emphasizing the organization of biennial congresses and the publication of publications.
Architects, art historians, engineers, sociologists, conservators, pedagogues etc., from their specific theoretical and methodological disciplinary perspectives, are part of the ‘organization. DOCOMOMO has the ambition of being a topography rather than a story. That is to say, instead of reconstructing a linear thread that allows to explain the considered productions for reasons of cause and effect, sending them as a genealogical tree to master figures, in a topographical study the strategies of territorial dissemination, filtration and contamination prevail, At the same time accepts multiple entries and readings.
