Project: Space fair. Center for the dissemination of the Feria de Abril de Sevilla.
Location: Plot of the EU 1 Calle Santander-Corral de las herrerías S1. Sevilla.
Project date: September 2012
Architects: Pablo Manuel Millán Millán, José Luis Argüelles Hernández and Román Fernández Guixot.

Project retrieves the canvas walls, both in scale (recovering the vertical dimension of the structure) as in materiality (replacing losses and correcting possible pathologies and conditions). The wall is a value added to the project by all that contributes to the whole and the singling out of a ‘patio’ surrounded by the original walls. There is no other space thus throughout the city allowing visitors to delve into a walled surroundings of similar volume.
This recovery is equally a commitment to the preservation of local heritage. To open the original door that is preserved in this stretch of canvas wall and the enhancement of the elevation of the Tower of la Plata, together with parallel investigations that the team of archaeologists will carry out, is one of the added challenges to the implementation of the project expected.
All the interventions of reform inside and as such the project ‘space fair’, are justified in the attempt of recomposing the historical block and the improvement of the relations in the sector with the rest of the urban space of the city, thus preventing degrading and inappropriate uses, being determinations that can take this Special Plan of protection under article 21 paragraph 2 of the law 16/85 of Spanish historical heritage. The intervention that we raise in the project ‘space fair’ opted for a starting value and visual and material recovery of the wall paintings that still remain.

The project ‘space fair’ raises a semi-public plaza at the street level. This square has a strong potential tourist and singular, since to maintain the original dimension it will be able to allow to create a viewpoint of all the canvas walls and space recovered in the ‘yard’.
On the other hand the square generates a multipurpose space, given that a part of it will be covered (by the superior construction) and another will be open. That scope, open or controlled access will be a place specially dedicated to receptions, presentations, etc. given the unique nature of the environment.
Since the adjacent streets have no public space with the necessary amplitude for the reception of visitors to the Museum, the plaza will also be the place of disembarkation of the same and meeting point to continue the visit. So this space will allow waiting while it is given access to the site and since it is linked to the Museum Shop, the square will be the place of relaxation before heading to the next location of the cultural route around the city.

The project ‘space fair’ has several points of access to both the new building and the private public space that generates.
By Santander Street has the access point road, which with a monta-coches records the entire project in your vertical. This point is very important, not only for the provisioning of the ‘House’ but also for the loading and unloading of the items and materials exhibition.
The pedestrian access are distributed around the perimeter of the project. The main entrance which is which overlooks the calle Santander enables entry to the upper square and from there gain access to any point of the building. The plaza pretending to be the meeting place for the whole. On the other hand the visitor can directly access to the ‘patio’, free space located at the foot of the wall, from the street, without having to traverse the entire complex, through a public staircase located in the South end. This ladder allows access as well as the direct output.
On the other hand are accessible from the ‘passage Jose Maria del Rey’ through an opening in the wall canvas, and with a walkway allowing visitors to access the set of privileged way. This opening will also use the alley of the passage that is currently little traveled.

One of the most important peculiarities that have project ‘space fair’ is to locate a ‘patio’ surrounded on all sides by the original paintings from the walls of the city. The importance of this scenario lies not only in the context of the project, but especially at level of understanding of the city, being therefore a necessary point in the tourist itinerary.
The space that is delimited by the wall and the new building define a characteristic space and with a personality that will be taken to the location of an open air auditorium. This application will allow the project accommodate representations and projections up to combined use with the demands of the building itself, such as open exhibition, terrace, etc.
The auditorium will be perfectly defined by the wall and the Tower of la plata as a backdrop. This identity of the city element will be that icon to the complex. A trade fair centre and Congress simultaneous use in the city centre specialises in the April fair and the flamenco, combining its use with the of an outdoor Auditorium, allows the possibility of hosting any event format.
The project ‘exhibition space’ with the walled patio aims to fundamentally remake the Apple in the broadest sense of the word, i.e., redo the vacuum and public space.
The building that will be done with this project, aims to be a singular building, character, who like all Interpretive Center make a link between the visitor and everything related to the preparation, development and enjoyment of the fair in all its manifestations.
